Fred C. Conrad served as Mayor and Postmaster of Saranac Lake, chief of the Saranac Lake Fire Department and president of the Saranac Lake General Hospital Board. He came to Saranac Lake with his mother Susan and brother Harry, and worked as a plumber at Walton & Tousley. He later became a partner in Davidson & Miller plumbing. He married Maude Liscomb. He is buried at St. John's in the Wilderness Cemetery.

RETIRED CO. TREASURER FRED C. CONRAD DIES: RITES IN SARANAC LAKE

Fred C. Conrad, 77, of 4 Park Place, Saranac Lake, retired county treasurer and prominent in county Republican circles, died at the Saranac Lake General hospital on December 8th. He had been a patient there since November 17th.

The funeral was held on the following Tuesday from the Fortune funeral home at 2:00 p. m. with the Rev. Dr. L. R. Driscoll, pastor of the Saranac Lake Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in St. John's in the Wilderness cemetery at Paul Smiths.

He is survived by a cousin, Miss Jean Conklin of Saranac Lake. His wife, the former Maude Liscomb, died February 15, 1955.

Mr. Conrad was born in Hartford, Conn., June 20, 1886, a son of John and Susan Hoag Conrad. He came to Saranac Lake with his mother and brother, Harry.

One of his first jobs was that of a licensed plumber with the Walton Tousley hardware firm. He later became a partner in the plumbing firm of Davidson and Miller in Saranac Lake.

Active in politics, he had served as mayor and postmaster of Saranac Lake; was elected supervisor of the town of Harrietstown in 1937, serving for six years. He held the post of Franklin county treasurer for 18 years before retirement two years ago.

He had been president of the Saranac Lake General hospital board and chief with the Saranac Lake volunteer fire department. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Saranac Lake Elks lodge 150S.

FRED CONRAD IS DEAD AT 77

Fred C. Conrad, 77, former mayor of Saranac Lake and supervisor of the Town of Harrietstown, died yesterday at Saranac Lake General Hospital where he had been a patient since Nov. 17. His home was at 4 Park Place.

Mr. Conrad was born in Hartford, Conn., son of John and Susan Hoag Conrad. He came to Saranac Lake as a child and attended schools here. He was a plumber and worked for the firm of Tousley, Walton and Tousley and later was a partner in the Davison and Miller firm.

Mr. Conrad also was postmaster of Saranac Lake, chief of the Saranac Lake Fire Department and president of the Saranac Lake General Hospital Board. Before retiring two years ago, he served for 18 years as treasurer of Franklin County.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Saranac Lake Elks Lodge 1508.

An Elks Service will be held at 8 o'clock this evening at the Fortune Funeral Home and a Masonic Service at 8:30. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the pastor of the Saranac Lake Methodist Church, the Rev. Dr. Lionel R. Driscoll officiating. Burial will be in St. John's In the Wilderness Cemetery at Paul Smith's.

A cousin, Miss Jean Conklin, of Saranac Lake, survives.
