Frederick Derby  was for many years the caretaker for the Waggaman Camp, on the southeast shore of Upper Saranac Lake that belonged to Major Ennalls Waggaman.  In 1959, he was at Panther Point.

Frederick W. Derby Dies at Burlington Hospital on May 5

Word has been received of the death of Frederic W. Derby, 81, on May 5 at the Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospital in Burlington, Vt. Committal services were held Saturday in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Saranac Lake, with the Rev. Philip Snyder presiding.

He was born at Bloomingdale, N. Y., the son of John C. and Agnes Stowell Derby. The family moved to Vermont in 1908, and he was graduated from, Johnson High School and attended the University of Vermont, leaving college, to enlist in the U.S. Army and serve about four years with the 105th Medical Corps. After his discharge he went west, returning in 1925 to Upper Saranac Lake. Mr. Derby was well known in this area from his many years as caretaker at the Stanley and Waggaman camp on Upper Saranac, and his years of residence at Panther Point.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mildred Allen of Saranac Lake; two sisters, Mrs. J. Grover (Blanche) Fletcher of Burlington, Vt., and Mrs. J. L. (Elizabeth) Buckley of Lavallette, N. J.
