SARANAC LAKE - Eugene R. Gladd 72, of 3 Riverside Drive in Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000 at his home.

Born May 17, 1927 in Saranac Lake, he was a son of Monroe and Thelma (Martin) Gladd.

Mr. Gladd was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. Along with his brother Joseph, Mr. Gladd operated Little Joe's bar in Saranac Lake for 40 years until 1989. He worked part time at the Santanoni for one year, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars arid the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, the former Joan Kelley, whom he married Oct. 7,1952; two daughters, Thelma Niederbuhl of Bloomingdale and Natalie Pond of Saranac Lake; five sons, Joseph E. Gladd of Bloomingdale, NY; Patrick K. Gladd of Ponca City, OK; John (Jack) S. Gladd of the U. S. Air Force, Ramstaid, Germany; Timothy P. Gladd of Raleigh, NC and James M. Gladd of Lake Placid; four brothers, Joseph Gladd of Key Largo, Fla., William Gladd of Saranac Lake; Monroe Gladd of Fla., and Peter Gladd of Saranac Lake; two sisters, Dorothy Davis of Washington and Elizabeth English of Connecticut; 19 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George Gladd.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral home which is in charge of arrangements.
