George C. Sageman was a construction engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad. When he learned that he had tuberculosis, he and his wife Margaret, a nurse, moved to Saranac Lake from Chicago, so that he could take the cure at the Trudeau Sanatorium. In 1920, they bought 30 and 32 Park Avenue, moving into and renovating the bungalow. George joined Branch and Callanan, with whom he helped build the Alpine Hotel, the Hotel Saranac, the Pontiac Theater, and the Agora Theater at the Lake Placid Club.
