SARANAC LAKE - George E. Besaw Sr., 77, of Vermontville died Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born, on Nov. 4, 1922 in Ray Brook, he was the son of William and Clara (Trombley) Besaw.

Besaw was a life-long resident of the area and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps. He was employed as a warehouse clerk and driver for George L. Stark's Co., the village of Saranac Lake, and Norman's Wholesale, until his retirement. He enjoyed, bowling, crossword, puzzles and reading.

Survivors, include a son, George E. Besaw Jr. of Vermontville a daughter, Rosalie Kilfoyle of Saranac Lake; daughter-in-law Kathy Talbot of Saranac Lake; three sisters, Frieda Matrineau of Plattsburgh, Margery Salls of New London, Conn., and Maude Beauford of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Besaw was predeceased by his wife, the former Clara E. Swinyer, on March 26, 1999; four brothers Warren, Louis, Kenneth, Wallace and a sister Dorothy.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral home in Saranac Lake.  A funeral. service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m, at the First Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Neil, pastor officiating.

Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in Vermontville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
