George E. Gonyea was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Philmore and Etta (Pritchard) Gonyea.

SARANAC LAKE - George Gonyea of Gabriels died Tuesday, Jan. 6 at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.

He was born Aug. 8, 1909 in Plumadore, the son of Philmore and Etta (Pritchard) Gonyea.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Ruby Shanty of Gabriels, Mrs. Margaret Brown of Saranac Lake and Mrs. Helen Fountain of Gabriels, with whom he made his home.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Gonyea had been a resident of Gabriels for 50 years, and had been employed at Fasco Industries of Rochester from 1953 until his retirement in 1973. He was also a veteran of World War II.

Calling hours will be at the Fortune Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m., and again tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

There will be a Bible vigil at 8 p.m., Thursday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Friday at 11 a.m.. at the Church of the Assumption in Gabriels. Rev. Peter Ward and Rev. Mr. Fred Mader will officiate. Interment will be in the Brighton Cemetery in May.

Friends wishing to remember Mr. Gonyea may make donations to the Paul Smiths/Gabriels Fire Department or the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad in his name.
