Presbyterian church Pays Last Tribute to Beloved Pastor Today

Members of the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church of Saranac Lake and friends from near and far gathered at the church here this afternoon to pay last tribute to the pastor, the Rev. George Kennedy Newell, in services to be held at 4:30 o'clock.

Following the service for Mr. Newell, who died from pneumonia yesterday morning at his home, 41 Church street, the body will remain at the church until tonight's train to New York, on which it will be taken to Woodlawn, N. Y., for burial at 11 o'clock Friday morning in the Woodlawn cemetery.

Services this afternoon are in charge of two close associates of Mr. Newell in the Northern New York ministry, the Rev. A. W. Maddox of Tupper Lake and the Rev. Mr. Gardner of Fort Covington.

Among those to mourn the passing of the pastor of the Presbyterian congregation here are President and Mrs. Coolidge, who during their stay at White Pine camp on Lake Osgood the past summer made this church their place of worship.

The Coolidges were officially notified of Mr. Newell's death in a telegram dispatched after a meeting, of the Session last evening. The following message was sent:

To His Excellency, Calvin Coolidge, President of the United States, At the White House, Washington, D. C. Rev. Mr. Newell passed away this morning eight o'clock. Pneumonia.

William F. Roberts, Clerk of Session.
