SARANAC LAKE — Geraldine M. Steenken, of 135 Park Avenue, Saranac Lake, died Thursday. Dec. 19, 1991, at the home of her son in Hamilton, Ohio, after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Dixfield, Maine, May 29, 1909, the daughter of Lulu and Adelbert Mclntyre. Mrs. Steenken moved to Saranac Lake in 1927 to attend the Trudeau School of Nursing and completed her training at Manhattan Maternity in New York City, where she received her registered nursing degree. She returned to Saranac Lake and served on the nursing staff of the Trudeau Sanitarium. While at Trudeau she met William Steenken Jr. They were married Sept. 15, 1933. Mr. Steenken was a bacteriologist, who later became the director of the Trudeau Laboratory.

In her retirement years, Mrs. Steenken had been a volunteer at the Adirondack Medical Center until the time of the diagnosis of her illness. Mrs. Steenken has been a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Saranac Lake and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William Greenlaw and Lee Otjen Steenken of Hamilton, Ohio; two grandchildren William and Shelley.

A son, Gerald Edward, died in 1963, and her husband died in 1983.

Calling hours will be Sunday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral from 2 to 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. James
