SARANAC LAKE – Gertrude Smith, 83, of 17 Charles Street, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 1995 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born Sept. 29, 1912 in Saranac Lake she was the daughter of Eugene Courtes and Mary Skiff Moody.
Mrs. Smith had been a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake. She had been employed by the American Management Association as the first head housekeeper from 1958 until 1962 when she went to work in the registration department until, her retirement in the 1970s.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had been very active at one time as a member of the Live Wires, working for the youth group and volunteering at rummage sales. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden.
Survivors include a son, Harrison Wood of Plattsburgh; and a daughter, Mrs. Lance (Lorraine) Hopp of Ballston Lake; and a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Irene) Rushlaw of Saranac Lake.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ambrose C. Smith, in 1977.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and. 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev, James Sprenger officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
