Hardy A. Sweet

GABRIELS - The funeral service for Hardy A. Sweet, 80[?] who died Friday at Saranac Lake General Hospital, was held this morning at the Gabriels Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Norman Darling conducted the service. Interment was in St. John's in the Wilderness Cemetery at Paul Smiths. A memorial service will be held at 7 this evening in Bartow Fla. where Mr. Sweet spent the winters.

Mr. Sweet was born in Paul Smiths, a son of David T. and Mary Tyler Sweet. He attended schools in Paul Smiths and Plattsburgh. For 45 years, he lived on the Harrietstown Road where he operated the St. Regis Dairy and later a potato farm. He had lived in Gabriels for four years.

In 1915 Mr. Sweet was married to Coral Sawyer of Keese Mills who died in October 1967. In October of 1969[?] he was married at the Gabriels Presbyterian Church to Lucy Swinyer Otis who survives.

Mr. Sweet had been active in church work for a long time. He served as an elder of the Harrietstown Presbyterian Church and later of the Gabriels Presbyterian Church which he was instrumental in building. He also was active in Masonic organizations.

Survivors, in addition to Mrs Sweet are: two sons: Hardy E. of Bartow, Fla. and David P of Dover, N J , two daughters, Mrs Frank (Hope) Augustine of Watertown and Mrs Stanley (Gloria) Warren of Bartow, Fla, a brother, Claude, of Gabriels, a sister, Mrs Leah Flynn of Saranac Lake; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren
