A very young Hazel Fowler was Winter Carnival queen in 1898. William L. Distin made a photo of her in a fur-laden sleigh which appeared on the cover of Adirondack Life in February 1992. She was a daughter of W. Smith Fowler, whose float also served to advertise his livery business.
