Howard Ellithorpe was a guide, a World War II veteran and a co-founder of the Blue Line Sport Shop in 1962. He later worked as a forest ranger for the Conservation Department.

SARANAC LAKE — Howard Ellithorpe, 65, of Lake Clear, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, while hunting in the area.
He was born June 2, 1927 in Lake Clear, the son of Howard and Rita (Manning) Ellithorpe.
Ellithorpe was a lifelong resident of the area and was a veteran of WW II serving in the Navy. He was co-founder of the Blue Line Sport Shop in Saranac Lake and later worked for the NYS Conservation Department as a forest ranger. He was presently an Adirondack guide and caretaker. Ellithorpe was a member of the American Legion and a past member of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters; Mary Grady of Wilmington and Karen Ellithorpe of Lake Placid; two sons, Dennis of Trapper Creek, Alaska and Benjymn [sic] of Lake Clear; a brother William of Syracuse; eight grandchildren; and 4 nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Saranac Lake.
A veterans service will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 8.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Robert Lowenthal pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Harrietstown Cemetery.
