Hubert M. Tyler Jr. was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Hubert and Rhoda (Doty) Tyler Sr.   He is buried in Union Cemetery.

Hubert M. "Sonny" Tyler Jr.

SARANAC LAKE - Hubert M. "Sonny" Tyler Jr., 66, of Vermontville, died Friday, Oct 7, 1994, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born June 13, 1928, in Vermontville, he was a son of Hubert and Rhoda (Doty) Tyler Sr.

Mr. Tyler was a lifelong resident of Vermontville and was a veteran of; World War II, serving in the Navy. He was employed by Swift and Company for many years, retiring in 1975. He later worked for the American Management Association and was a school bus driver for the Saranac Lake Central School District. He served as a town of Franklin councilman for 12 years and was a town justice for 16 years. He had recently been reelected to the town board and had served as Republican Committee Chairman.

Mr. Tyler participated in the Cub Scouts, the Youth Commission and was a volunteer at the St. Bernard's School playground. He was the first recipient of the Franklin County ARC Volunteer of the Decade award for his many years of volunteer service. He and his wife were king and queen of the 1993 Founders Day in Vermontville.

Survivors include his wife, the former Joan Ayers, whom he married January 19, 1952; a daughter, Mrs. Philip (Terrie) Perkins of Saranac Lake; two sons, Hubert Tyler III and Curtis Tyler, both of Vermontville; a brother, Gene, of Franklin Falls; three sisters, Carol Shumway of Seneca Falls, Eunice Tormey of Onchiota and Patricia Riley of Vermontville; five grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Clark of the Vermontville Nazarene Church officiating. A reception will follow the interment service at the town of Franklin town hall in Vermontville.
