Malone Farmer, October 25, 1911

The Adirondacks have lost another lady of high character and purpose in the death of Mrs. Ida H. Rice, widow of the late Dr. Isaac Rice, at her home in Bloomingdale, where for the past two years she had resided with her sister, Mrs. Seth Wardner. Dr. Rice built the well-known hotel known as “Rice's on Lake Clear,” and Mrs. Rice was the competent landlady of this resort. After the death of her husband in 1899, Mrs. Rice continued to conduct the hostelry, with the assistance of a manager, until failing health compelled her to retire from its arduous duties. She had long been afflicted with heart disease. She was a woman of many graces, and visitors at the hotel found her always on the alert to contribute to their comfort and enjoyment. She had been an active, working member of the Bloomingdale M. E. church for upwards of 30 years and was interested in all that makes for the; betterment of the community in which she resided. The funeral took place from the church there Tuesday afternoon and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Ryder, assisted by former pastors. Her age was 55 years. She is survived by one son, Charles I. Rice, of New York, and two daughters, Mrs, Ralph Mulligan and Miss Jennie Rice. One brother, Charles L. Bunker, of Bloomingdale, and three sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Wardner; Mrs. Alice Miller, of Saranac Lake, and Mrs. Walter Hall, of New York.
