SARANAC LAKE - Ingeborg Klemperer, 88, of Saranac Lake died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998 in Westminster, Colo.

Born in Berlin, Germany, she and her husband, Friedrich, immigrated to the United States in 1933 and moved to Saranac Lake in 1947.

In the years following World War II, she was active in assisting immigrants who settled in the area. She started the German language program at the Saranac Lake High School in the 1950s and taught German there for several years.

Mrs. Klemperer received a master's degree from Middlebury College. At the age of 74, she received a Ph.D in German Literature from Syracuse University. In 1966, she moved to Syracuse and continued teaching high school and college level German. They returned to Saranac Lake after retirement in 1978. She volunteer her time to Meals on Wheels and Literacy Volunteers.

Survivors include: her husband of 64 years Dr. Friedrich Klemperer of Boulder, Colo; two daughters, Maria Aweida of Boulder, Colo, and Katharina Klemperer of Acton, Mass.; two sons, David Klemperer of Blacksburg, Va. and Walter Klemperer of Urbana, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
