James Brearton operated the Lakeview Grill from 1948 to 1975, when it was torn down to widen River Street.

James Brearton

SARANAC LAKE - James Brearton, 73, of Church St., died yesterday at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.

He was born in Troy March 30,1909, the son of the Arthur and Josephine (Wafer) Brearton.

Mr. Brearton owned and operated the Lakeview Restaurant formerly located on River Street for 28 years. He retired in 1975.

He was a member of the Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Bishop Gabriel's Assembly, and a member of the Saranac Lake Moose Club.

Survivors include his wife, the former Luella Brown of Saranac Lake; a son James of Yonkers; a daughter Barbara Brearton of Fort Worth, Tex.; a grandson Timothy Brearton of Yonkers; and several nieces and, nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the Fortune Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., today and include a Bible vigil at 3:30.

A mass of Christian burial will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m., at St. Ber- nard's Church with the Rev. C.J. McAvoy officiating. Knights of Columbus members are asked to gather at the church at 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in North Elba Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to St. Bernard's Church.
