James L. Betters was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of William and Marie Amell Betters.

James L. Betters

James L. Betters, 66, of Lake Kiwassa, a life-long resident of Saranac Lake, died yesterday morning at Saranac Lake General Hospital. Mr. Betters was born Nov. 13, 1897, son of William and Marie Amell Betters.

He served in the Navy in World War II and was highway department foreman for the Village of Saranac Late for many years. Mr. Betters was a member of the Elks, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors are four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Beats, and Miss Winifred Betters of Saranac Lake, and Mrs. Pauline Hammond and Mrs. Lillian O'Neil.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. today at the Madonna Chapel at the Keough and Son Funeral Home. A combined American Legion and VFW service will be held at 7:30 this evening, an Elks service will be at 8 o'clock, and a Rosary service at 8:30. A Requiem High Mass for the repose of the soul will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard's Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
