Slides of African trip set for library meeting

SARANAC LAKE - A trip to Africa via slides has been prepared for people attending the annual meeting of the Saranac Lake Free Library Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. in the community room of the library. The show is a presentation by John B. Trevor. Jr., Upper St. Regis Lake, of photographs taken on a safari this past May in the part of Kenya east of the Tsavo Park. Accompanying Trevor on the safari were his son, Sandy and his daughter-in-law, Ellen, all of whom took part in the picture-taking trip, and the title given the showing is "On Safari East of Tsavo." Trevor has been on five safaris to Africa and has been in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Swaziland, Mozambique, the Republic of South Africa, Egypt and Morocco. He is a life member of the East African Wildlife Society, a member of the National Botanical Gardens of South Africa and is one of the friends of the Serengeti. Some of his trophies are included in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution, and the Freer Museum in Washington received as a gift from Mr. Trevor a collection of Chinese export ceramics found in the ruins of the ancient city of Pate on the Kenya coast, reportedly the first collection of its kind to reach this country.

Also on the agenda of the meeting will be the election of officers.

There is no admission fee and the public is invited to attend. Those interested in enlisting as sustaining members of the library may apply to Esther Mirick, treasurer, at the library.
