John Lapan Dies At Saranac Lake
John H. Lapan, Saranac Lake business man and former confidential investigator of the New York State Conservation department, died March 28 at his home in Saranac Lake following a heart attack.
Mr. Lapan was born in December, 1865, in Saranac, Clinton county. He was the son of John and Katharine O'Shaughnessey Lapan.
In 1926 he purchased the business known as Louis Kernochan and Company, incorporated, which today operates under the name of John Lapan Sons, incorporated. He was also senior partner in the Lapan Oil company, a firm which began business in Saranac Lake in 1934.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Edna L. Hickey of Brockton, Mass.; five sons, all of Saranac Lake: Clarence C., George H., Richard L., James H. and William F. Lapan; two brothers, Richard P. Lapan of Saranac Lake, and Daniel S. Lapan of Saranac; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Humphrey of Los Angeles and Mrs. Charles Sample of Mooers, and nine grandchildren.
