LAKE PLACID — A. John Rovito, 73, of 4 Payeville Road in Saranac Lake, died Saturday, April 9, 1994 at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

Born June 17, 1920 in St Regis Falls, he was the son of Frank and Teresa (Giordano) Rovito.

He married the former Jane Bunker of Saranac Lake on Dec. 13, 1969 in St. Bernard's Church, with the Rev. Thomas Tucker officiating.

Mr. Rovito attended schools in St. Regis Falls and lived most of his life in Saranac Lake, where he was employed at Madden's Transfer and Storage for many years and later worked as a custodian for BOCES, retiring in 1984.

A veteran of the U.S. Army Airforce, he served during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the BPOE No. 1508 and also attended St. Bernard's Church, where he was head usher for many years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John G. Rovito of Saranac Lake; two brothers, Tony Rovito of Tupper Lake and Frank Rovito of Saranac Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. A Bible vigil will be held at 8 p.m. followed by an Elks service at 8:15 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church, with the Rev. Bill Edwards officiating. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in May.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard's School and to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
