SARANAC LAKE - Joseph Andrew Blanks Jr., 70, of Bloomingdale, died Friday, July 12, 1996 at his home.

Born July 7, 1926 in New York City, he was the son of Joseph A. and Effie (Williams) Blanks Sr. He married the former Louise Corley, who died earlier.

Mr. Blanks was a letter carrier for the post office and the National Health Institute in Washington, D.C. Later, he was a radio disk jockey and a night club manager in New York City. He moved to Bloomingdale in 1971 and had been employed by the American Management Association in Saranac Lake for 20 years, retiring in 1993. He was an avid fisherman and sports fan.

Survivors include the former Anita Harris Bailey of Greensboro, N.C., whom he married Sept. 24, 1994 in Greensboro; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Charla and Antonio Nelson Sr., and a step-grandson, Antonio Nelson, Jr., all of Greensboro; a nephew, Joseph Turner of Ashville, N.C.; several cousins; and many friends.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Alethia Joy Streeter on June 5, 1996 and a stepson, Charles Bailey III, on Sept. 19, 1995.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Saranac Lake, with the Rev. Charles Monts officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery in. Bloomingdale.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or High Peaks Hospice in care of the funeral home.
