Kathryn Callaghan Cummings
LAKE CLEAR - Kathryn Callaghan Cummings, 83, of Forest Home Road in Lake Clear, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake where she had been a patient for three weeks.
She was born on Dec. 27, 1920 in Lake Clear, the daughter of Matthew and Florence Buchanan Otis. She attended school in Lake Clear and was a graduate of Saranac Lake High School.
She married George Vincent Callaghan on Sept. 30, 1940 in Lake Clear. He died April 28, 1969.
She married Leo Cummings on Feb. 12, 1983 in Lake Clear. She was employed at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid as a health care aide and had previously been employed at Major's Inn in Lake Clear. She had also worked at Camp Intermission, and was a companion and health care aide for Miss Burlinghoff and had worked as a health care aide at Gabriels Sanitarium in Gabriels. She had also been a foster mother for many years for handicapped children.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Lake Clear.
She is survived by five sons: Harold Callaghan, Robert Callaghan, both of Lake Clear, Stephen Callaghan of Port Leyden, Bryan Callaghan of Albany and James Callaghan of Tupper Lake; two daughters: Anita Boliver and her husband Dan of Clovis, N.M. and Ruth Dreschler and her husband Peter of Scotia; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rum Norton of Englewood, Florida.
She was predeceased by her second husband Leo on April 21, 2002; one brother, Harold Otis; and three sisters: Mildred Otis, Marie Heath and Madeline Jacques.
Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23 at the Cummings home on Forest Home Road in Lake Clear. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at St. John's Catholic Church in Lake Clear with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Cremation will be in Brookside Cemetery in Watertown and burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Lake Clear. The Callaghan Funeral Home in Port Leyden has been entrusted with me arrangements.
