Bloomingdale Death Is Ruled Suicide

State police reported that Leo Amell, 46, of Bloomingdale died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the chest yesterday afternoon about 1:30.

Mr. Amell had reportedly been despondent over ill health for some time. Investigators said the victim was shot with a 300 Savage rifle in his bedroom.

Acting coroner Ronald Keough substituted for Essex County coroner Dr. Herbert Bergamini due to the proximity of the shooting to Saranac Lake.

An autopsy was performed last night and a ruling of suicide upheld.
