Linda Gale Lyon Van Voorhis was a daughter of Edmund B. Lyon, and spent many summers at the family camp on Deer Island on Upper Saranac Lake.  She was a poet and a philanthropist.  She was known as June in her family; as a young woman she published "June's Verses" in 1924, followed with ''More June's Verses'' in 1935 and in 1973, ''June in September.'' Carolyn Lyon Remington, her twin sister, was known as May.

Linda and her husband, Court of Appeals Justice John Van Voorhis, gave the Wawbeek Inn on Upper Saranac Lake, to St. Lawrence University in 1975.

Mrs. Van Voorhis is a published poet. She is the author of three books of poetry and has had numerous poems published in popular anthologies. She was included in Who's Who in American Women and is active in a number of civic and arts organizations in Rochester. She and her husband, retired Court of Appeals Justice John Van Voorhis, former owners of the Wawbeek Inn on Upper Saranac Lake, gave the Adirondack resort property to St. Lawrence in 1975.
