Linzy Leon Putnam, Jr. was a Korean War veteran, missing in action, who was last seen in February 1951. According to his niece, he died in a Korean POW camp on his 21st birthday. He has a marker in Pine Ridge Cemetery, but his body was never returned home.

Pvt. Charles Fisher, of Boston, Mass., spent the recent weekend with Mr. and Mrs, Linzy Putnam, of 4 1/2 Edward street. Pvt. Fisher was a Korean buddy of Pvt. Linzy Putnam Jr., who has been missing in action since February 31, [sic] 1951.

PFC L. PUTNAM FUNERAL RIGHTS

Funeral services with military honors for PFC Linzy Putnam will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Saranac Lake Methodist Church. Rev. Norman M. Moss will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery. There will be a veterans memorial service at 8 o'clock Sunday evening at the chapel of A. Fortune and Co., where the body will repose. Private Putnam died in a prison camp on May 31, 1951. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Linzy L. Putnam, of 4 1/2 Edward St., Pvt. Putnam was a member of the National Guard but joined the regular army in Sept. 1949. He took his basic training at Fort Dix, N.J., was transferred to Ft. Lewis, Wash., and shipped overseas to Korea. Pvt Putnam was reported missing in action on Feb. 13, 1951. Confirmation of his death was received by his parents on June 16, 1953. He had died of dysentery while in a North Korean prisoner of war camp.
