2010-01-09 17:36:58 My sisters and I grew up in this house when my parents (Harold L. and Mary Hill) owned it! What a beatiful time it was. Sorry to seeing it falling apart now. But nothing last forever! I enjoyed looking at this site and going back in time to see this most memorable town! Thanks Lynda Hill Phillipson. —70.44.45.153
2010-01-09 22:35:46 I also was raised in the house by my Aunt Mary and uncle harold Hill. I also had 3 cousins who I lived with. I go back and look at it when I can and remember how great it was in the day. I can still remember my hiding place that I was always successful in using when I was in trouble. 2010-01-10 08:29:23 Great comments! Any chance either of you have old photos of the house or other Saranac Lake sites to share? And we'd be interested in more specifics on your family and their history in the village. If you're interested in sharing, drop us a line at [email protected] or at Historic Saranac Lake, 89 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. Take a look at Family Scrapbooks and Albums for examples of what we've got now. And remember, the world of your childhood may not seem much like "History" to you now, but fifty years from now it will definitely qualify! —Mwanner
2010-01-10 12:53:04 I believe that my parents were living there when I was born. Our grandmother Eva LaGrange Hill also lived with us. As my sister stated..."What wonderful memories we had." I sure would like to know where my cousin Richard Peck's hiding place was. I never could figure it out. Thank you for this wonderful memory. Lucille Hill Duprey —75.65.114.46
2010-01-12 11:13:27 Please see the Eva Long album for what appears to be a photo of the house. The photo of Eva sitting on the porch appears to show the unusual curved out porch on the left of this house. —amycatania

My son, who lives there, can give you provide math. "A past to remember - a future to mold?" Yes indeed, molding away — You sir, do not hold a candle to Bunk —

2011-08-14 10:48:26 I could just as easily addeda "live tag" to a pornographic image — Trudeau Board voted 19-1 to stay here based on your work ?? Dream on dude - the money is going to pour in, and you revisionists who imply that the TB cure was "Charitable Work" and never met/talked to Roger Tubby, Dr. F. Trudeau Jr., etal, are without a clue — The ppl. who provided "Great Comments" never responded to old neighbors who asked for old pics, etc. Also, the "Cure" was not as efficatious as implied in "Little Red" tours — ask Michelle Tucker to show you the pics of the coffins at Union Depot. I warned the equally inept folks @ "Rainbow Graphics" re:live tags back in 1997 @ "The Bead Site" - which is where I'd first bumped into Bunks site. You told me that you were his "Competition." Dream on. dude - Mr. Griffin is peerless. —64.134.47.37
Well, sure, but what would be the point of putting up a pornographic image? To embarrass us? Yourself? Some poor school kid? You could do the same thing on Wikipedia or lots of other sites. So what?
Second I don't think we've ever tried to take credit for Trudeau staying. We like to think we may have had some influence, but only the Trudeau board knows what factors played what role in the final outcome.
Third, the cure at Trudeau was, in fact, largely supported by charitable contributions. It wasn't free, but it was provided at below cost to those who couldn't afford it. Many of those who contributed substantially did so out of gratitude for the care that was taken of their loved ones. But that's not to say that there wasn't a lot of money made in Saranac Lake by owners of commercial private sanatoria, and by the doctors who treated their patients.
As to the efficacy of the "cure," I have little doubt that there was a good deal of faith healing involved. What is undoubted is that there are many stories of people who came here, improved, returned to their former homes, got sick again, and came back to Saranac Lake to stay. Was it because there was less stress here? Was it because they believed they would be healthier here that they actually were healthier? Who knows? We're not trying to suggest that the Saranac Lake "cure" was all that it was believed to be at the time. But the fact that thousands did believe in it is why Saranac Lake is still the biggest little city in the Adirondacks. If you think we're just publishing positive stories on the cure, see Fred M. Rice's essay.
Finally, I have nothing but admiration for Bunk and his site. I have provided numerous links to it here, and he has linked to our site. I don't recall saying that we are in competition. If we were competing, HSL would clearly be way behind— we're not yet three years old, and Bunk has been at it for fifteen. With a little luck, we'll catch up.
You can put a link to an image, but it will not display just about anywhere on the portion of the internet known as the "WWW" - buy a clue - you are irresponsible and an inept web admin. - look me up in "Who's Who in America" 2002 @ the SL Library - all true - including "Schnibco's List" - an absurd "Award site" - ""Schnibco's List of Best Web Sites Originating From Zip Code 12983-1128" - Bunk was on a block of 4 w/suffix 1128 - now it is probably only 3 - If you were covering just the Trudeau Sanitarium? That's one thing — but these "Cure Cottages" were commercial enterprises - I have sent links to HSL of Forbes Magazine articles stating that it was a very expensive disease to treat - I've also sent links to HSL of Saranac Lake Lab/Church St. work commissioned by Johns-Manville in the 1940's that proved a causal link between long-fiber asbestos (not all asbestos is "long fiber) and lung cancer. I said I'd keep my mouth shut, but you have just opened it big time — there may be national security issues involved re:911/WTC — thanks for the green light - again, in 50 years, when things become "History" to a "historian" like you, you will still not come close to being Bunk — —96.228.124.213
2011-08-16 19:45:19 Sir, I request that you direct any questions / comments / concerns about the work of Historic Saranac Lake to me at [email protected]. Please check the guidelines at http://hsl.wikispot.org/About_HSL_Wiki. This site is a place for history and civil discourse. We are fully aware of the asbestos research that went on at the lab and the work of Leroy Gardner and others. We have been providing information about it to the public and journalists for years. Please contact me with any questions. —amycatania

Mwanner (who told me in Gail And Mikes photo store that he was Bunk's competition.) Civil Discourse ?? Real People live and died there - When my wife passed away - I had 2 calls on my machine - Bob Colby (non-entity) & Chuck Brumley, who knew my depth. If he were Alive??
