Marion Catherine Lynch Madden was the wife of William F. Madden, Sr.; she helped run Madden's Transfer and Storage for many years.

SARANAC LAKE — Mrs. Marion C. Madden, 88, of 12 Lake Flower Avenue, died early Saturday morning, March 15, at Uihiein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. She had been a resident of the center for the past month.

Mrs. Madden was born Aug. 2, 1897, in Brookdale, the daughter of Dennis and Mary (Smith) Lynch.

She moved to Lake Placid in 1920 and worked as dining room director at the Lake Placid Club for four years.

On Oct. 22, 1922, she married William F. Madden, Sr., and they moved to Saranac Lake.

Mr. Madden died in September, 1974.

Mrs. Madden was active in operation of the family business, Madden's Transfer and Storage in Saranac Lake, for 60 years, retiring as secretary-treasurer in August, 1984, for health reasons.

She was a charter member of Catholic Daughters, Court St. Bernard, and a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, both in Saranac Lake.

Survivors include a son, William F. Madden, Jr., of Saranac Lake; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Helen) Raimondi of Saranac Lake; a sister, Mrs. Irene Penham of Schenectady; five grandchildren, William Madden, III, and Michael Madden, both of Saranac Lake, Mrs. Mary Heisler of Elon College, N.C., Nancy Bola of Malone and James Bola of Rochester; a great grandson, Mark LeClair of Malone; and several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Catherine Bola, predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11:15 a.m. today at St. Bernard's Church with the Rev. John Yonkovig officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery in May.

Memorial donations may be made to Uihiein mercy Center, the Carmelite Sisters or the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad in care of the Fortune Funeral Home.
