Motel owner named to tourism council
SARANAC LAKE - Martha Cogan of Pioneer Village, Ray Brook, has been elected to represent the Tourist Association on the newly created Franklin County Tourism Council.
The Tourist Association is a committee made up of members of the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce involved in the housing and restaurant industries.
The council, formed under the Franklin County Industrial Development Agency, is to be made up of the executive director of each Chamber Bloomingdale Dorothy of Commerce within the county and one representative from each directly involved in the tourist industry.
Cogan and her husband, John, have owned and operated the Pioneer Village for five years. She is also employed by the North Elba Park District and is involved in coordination of ticket sales at the Olympic Field Center Box Office..
She and local Chamber of Commerce Executive Director J.S. Dyer will attend the organizational meeting of the council Jan. 21 at Meachum[sic] Lake Inn.

…Martha Cogan, operator of Pioneer Village in Ray Brook and president of the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, said she is opposed to the name change, "because our connection is all to Saranac Lake. "If I was going to change the name, I'd want to change our name to Saranac Lake,' she said. "All our thinking goes that way..."
