Mrs. Mary I. Titus, widow of the late John Titus, of Bloomingdale, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Otis, in Plattsburgh, Sunday, aged 83 years. Mrs. Titus was a Martin, sister of Doug. Martin, of Paul Smiths and a woman of beautiful spirit and character. She possessed high intelligence and long followed teaching. For years she was one of the best-known women of the Adirondacks, interested in every good work in the vicinity of her home village. The funeral took place yesterday. Mrs. Titus is survived by four children: Mrs. Otis; Mrs. N. D. Barnard, of Elizabethtown; William H. and James H. Titus, of Paul Smith's; also her brother, Douglas Martin, of Paul Smith's, and sister, Mrs. Kate M. Jones, of Wappinger Falls, N. Y. Mrs. Titus was the daughter of Hugh Martin, one of the Adirondack pioneers, and a sister of the wife of Paul Smith, Sr., who had so much to do with the building up of Paul Smith' s famous hotel. Mrs. Titus had many old friends in Malone who mourn her passing. Her remains were brought to this village and interred at Morningside cemetery.
