MRS. MATILDA ROCK, DOUGLAS NATIVE, DIES

Resident of Bloomingdale Succumbs After Lingering Illness in 99th Year

Funeral services for Mrs. Matilda Abare Rock, 98, widow of Henry Rock of Bloomingdale, who died at the home of her daughter, Miss Lillian Rock postmistress of that village, late Wednesday night, were conducted Saturday at St. Paul's Roman Catholic church in Bloomingdale. Rev. Donald A. Gallagher, pastor, celebrated the solemn requiem Mass. Burial was made in the family plot in St. Paul's cemetery.

Mrs. Rock was born in December, 1843, the daughter of John and Celeste Abare at Douglas. She was married to Henry Rock of Keeseville when she was 23. After their marriage, the couple moved to Bloomingdale where they resided for almost 70 years. Mr. Rock, a carpenter by trade, died in Bloomingdale in 1932. Mrs. Rock had been blind for the past ten years and had ,been bedridden during that period.

She is survived by two sons, G. Edward Rock, Southwick, Mass.; Alfred R. Rock, Newark, N. J.; her daughter, Miss Rock; four grandchildren, Mrs. Guy Herron, Plattsburgh; Mrs. J. Coons, Utica; Mrs. Eugene Brittell, Massena and Milton Rock, Lowell, Mass., and ten great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Matilda Rock, 98, of Bloomingdale, widow of Henry Rock, Sr., died last evening after a lingering illness. She had made her home with her daughter, Miss Lillian Rock of Bloomingdale. Survivors include George E. Rock of Springfield, Mass., Alfred Richard Rock of Newark, N.J.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Eugene Britter of Massena, Guy Hereon, Mrs. G. G. Coon of Utica, Milton Rock of Lowell, Mass.
