MERTON DRURY DIES, HORSE ENTHUSIAST

Merton A. Drury, 71, died Monday morning at his home in Malone of a heart ailment.

Mert, as he was called, was known thruout the North Country as a trader and horseman. He was born in Malone. About 30 years ago he moved to Saranac Lake and was in the livery business there about 10 years. After returning to Malone, he went into the taxi business and later built up a second-hand establishment and operated that for several years.

Interested in race horses all his life, Mert could always be found wherever racing enthusiasts or horse owners met. He owned his own harness horses and when the Malone driving and riding club was formed he was one of the first to join.
