SARANAC LAKE - Michael Holtz, 45, of Vermontville, died Thursday, March 28, 1996 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born on Jan. 17, 1951 in Spangler, Pa., he was the son of Jerome and Esther (Dillon) Holtz.

Mr. Holtz graduated from high school in Cambridge Heights, Pa. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1969, served in Vietnam, and was discharged in 1976. Mr. Holtz, a resident of Vermontville since 1978, worked for the Saranac Lake Central School District as a mechanic in the bus garage for 10 years. In 1988, he was hired by Sunmount DDSO in Tupper Lake as a mechanic. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed wood working.

Survivors include his wife, the former Theresa Lee Keith of Vermontville, whom he married on July 10, 1976; one son, Wade Holtz of Vermontville; one daughter, Tiffany Holtz of Vermontville; three sisters, Veronica Carmichael of New Hampshire, Agnes Taylor of Ohio, and Polly Williams of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Daniel and Ronald Holtz of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Edward.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 31 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. A Bible vigil service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale with the Rev. Joseph Trombley officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in Vermontville.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad or the Tupper Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
