Myron J. Skeels, known as "Rube," was a life long Saranac Lake resident, having graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1938. He was inducted into the Saranac Lake High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 19xx for receiving four varsity letters each year for football, track, hockey and baseball. He was well known in local baseball history as a popular player and manager of such clubs as the Brighton Blues and Saranac Lake Chiefs.  He was also a village trustee from 1962 to 1967. He was a World War II Veteran, joining the Navy on July 1, 1943 and serving in the Navy in both theaters as a radar man, 3rd class, earning a WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 9, 1945 . As a young man, he clerked at the Economy Market. He retired from the New York Telephone Company as an installer/repair man in 1980 after 35 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He and his wife, Claire, lived at 12, now 48, McClelland Street for 47 years. They were married for 64 years, having tied the knot on December 4, 1942 at Immaculate Heart Conception Church in Rochester, NY.
