SARANAC LAKE - Pauline C. Newell, 100, of Keese Mills Road, Paul Smiths, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 at Moses Ludington Nursing Home in Ticonderoga.

Born on Oct. 8, 1899 in Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of George and Elvina (Bombard) Campbell.

Mrs. Newell had been a resident of the Paul Smiths area for over 75 years and was a member of the Brighton Senior Citizens. She enjoyed quilting and knitting.

She was twice a Gold Star Mother losing twins in World War II, Loren C. Newell in December 1943 and H. Lovel Newell in April of 1944. Both were members of the Air Force and were born on Feb. 22, 1922.

Mrs. Newell was also predeceased by her husband, Harold Newell, on Jan. 1, 1966.

Survivors included a daughter, Lenore Leavitt of Gabriels; and two sons, Richard Newell of Paradox Lake and Donald of Schenectady; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one brother, Kenneth Campbell and a sister, Mildred Oakes.

A memorial service, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, with Rev. Arthur Goyette officiating.
