SARANAC LAKE - Richard Branch, 71, of Saranac Lake, died Thursday, May 20, 1999 at the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

Born in Redford on April 6, 1928, he was the son of Spencer and Stella (Delcore) Branch.

Branch was a longtime resident of Saranac Lake where he worked as a painter for many years. Prior to that he lived in Scotia from 1957 to 1965 where he was employed as a school bus driver for the Burnt Hills-Balston Lake School System. He returned to Saranac Lake in the 1970s.

Branch was a past member of the Saranac Lake American Legion Post 447. He was an avid sports enthusiast and had managed the Black Fly Softball League for the Cedar Post for several years.

Survivors include one son, Stafford Branch of Saranac Lake; one daughter, Carrie Jo Gardner of Savannah, Ga.; his former wife, Helen Bishop Lake; five brothers, Marshall Branch, Harlan Branch and Roland "Dud" Branch of Saranac Lake, Jerome "Champ" Branch of N.H. and Augustine "Gus" Branch of Oswego; two sisters, Louise Wilcox and Rose Marie Glover of Saranac Lake; three grandchildren, Emily Branch of Saranac Lake and Sean and Holly Gardner of Savannah, Ga. as well as many nieces and nephews.

Branch was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, George and Donald Branch and one sister, Mary Branch Miller.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Fortune Keough Funeral Home, Inc. of Saranac Lake.

A veteran service will take place at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with funeral services following at 8:15 p.m. with the Rev. Timothy Soucy officiating.

Burial will be at the St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

Memorial donations may be made to High Peaks Hospice in care of the funeral home.
