Robert Williams Humphrey was a TB patient at the New York State Hospital at Ray Brook. After he was cured, he worked there as a staff member, and later married Nita Brush, a patient he met there. He went to work in Ithaca soon after they were married, and when she was released he sent for her and they started life in Ithaca together. She passed away from TB in 1947, and most of her family would eventually die of TB.
