Russell J. Minty was a World War I veteran and a World War II veteran. He graduated from West Point and attained the rank of Brigadier General.

Gen. Russell Minty

A funeral service will be held at 2 p. m. Friday at the Gabriels Presbyterian Church for Brig. Gen. Russell J. Minty of Rainbow Lake who died suddenly Tuesday in Hernando, Fla. He and Mrs. Minty were spending the winter there at the River Lakes Manor.

Gen Minty was born Sept. 18, 1900 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was graduated from the United State Military Academy at West Point and served in both World Wars. After retiring, he made his home at Rainbow Lake.

Survivors are his wife, the former Cora Rutledge; a son, William of Clarksburg Md; a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Conklin of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Miss Helen Minty of Minneapolis, Minn, and Mrs. Velva Ellis of Lansing. Mich. Gen Minty was commander of the Franklin County American Legion. He also was a member of the executive board of the Adirondack Council. Boy Scouts land chairman of the council finance committee, and a member of the Gabriels Presbyterian Church.

Friends may call, beginning at 2 p. m. Thursday at the Fortune Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be a Legion  service at 8 p.m. Thursday and members of the Adirondack Council Boy Scouts will meet at 8:30.

The Rev. George R. Sailer, pastor of the Adirondack Parish Churches, will conduct the funeral service. Interment will be in May in Gabriels Cemetery.
