SARANAC LAKE - Sara I. Griffin, 80, of 66 Franklin Avenue, Saranac Lake died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born Aug. 5, 1919 in Saranac Lake, she was the daughter of Charles and Mae (Foster) Phillips.

Mrs. Griffin was a life-long resident of Saranac Lake and had worked at Bernie's Restaurant for a time and later worked for the Dew Drop Inn as the cook for 25 years, retiring in the 1970's.

Survivors include, two sons, Phillip 'Bunk' Griffin of Saranac Lake, and Robert Griffin of West Hurley; three daughters Shirley LaPlante of Macedon, Kathy Munn, with whom she made her home, and Sharon Florence, both of Saranac Lake; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Paye of Saranac Lake and Daisy Geoni of Albany; and. several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Morris Griffin in 1946; three brothers, Charles, George, and Clarence Phillips and four sisters; Hazel Sears, Gladys Smith, Alvira Winch and Alice Matthews.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Monts, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Cremation will follow with burial in Pine Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assn., the Juvenile Diabetes Assn., or the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
