In 1878, Sherwood Bissell Ferris, with his brother Murray W. Ferris, created Ferris Brothers, manufacturers of the Ferris Good-Sense Corset Waist, based in part on several corset improvements patented internationally by S.B. Ferris.  He withdrew from active participation in the business in 1897 due to ill health. 1

Sherwood Ferris lived in Lakewood, New Jersey, and had a camp on Deer Island in Upper Saranac Lake.  In 1906, he won the Lakewood Golf Cup.

It was Ferris who sold Prospect Point to Adolph Lewisohn, according to a May 31, 1903 New York Times article.

He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lakewood, New Jersey.

Leslie is one of the enthusiasts, and Sherwood R. Ferris [sic] of Lakewood, who is in camp on Deer Island and who won the open golf tournament two seasons ago, is playing in good form…
