Address: Sorrel Street off of Cold Brook Road, nominally Upper Franklin Falls Road, Bloomingdale

Other names: Bloomingdale No. 5, Franklin No. 5

Year built:

Other information: According to the current owners, who occupy the former schoolhouse as a residence, the Sorrel Street School was also known as Bloomingdale No. 5. Each of the schools was built 2.5 miles apart; presumably no child was required to walk more than half that distance to school.

The Master Plan for School District Reorganization, published by the New York State Education Department in 1958, designates this school as Franklin No. 5, which was organized as a Common School District. See Schools for published list.

The late Francis E. Martin, a long-time school district employee, was also a historian of the schools and aided the owners of the Sorrel Street School in finding the history of their property.
