Syriac Duprey was the son of Syriac and Philomena Duprey who came to Troy, New York, from Quebec in 1869. In 1883 he married Elizabeth Russet of Elizabethtown in Mineville. In 1886, they moved to Saranac Lake, settling on a large tract in the North Elba section where Duprey Street is now located.

For more than 15 years, he worked for the village water department in the days when laying a sewer or water main was a great undertaking. He assisted in the development of the system.

He worked as a building contractor and as a foreman for Branch and Callanan for many years, during which time he built scores of houses and camps in the Saranac Lake region.

He retired to a tourist colony that he built in Ray Brook.
