Theodore "Ted" Leon

LOON LAKE — Theodore "Ted" Leon, 80, of Loon Lake, died Saturday. Sept. 29. 1990, at his home.

He was born an orphan in New York City Oct. 29, 1909. He came to Loon Lake in 1922 when he was 13 and lived with the late Edward and Elizabeth Daigneau until he married Grace Demo in 1934. She died in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was later employed by the New York Central Railroad. He retired as a weigh-station operator with the state of Ohio. He was active in the 55-Plus senior citizens group in Vermontville and was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie May, whom he married in 1962; two sons. Dr. Donald, E. Leon of Cortland and Thomas F. Leon of Grand Isle. Vt.; a daughter. Barbara Jean Nolan of Lagger, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Kim Basonic of Lawton, Okla., and Mrs. Louise Probst of Ashtabula, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Fortune Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Bible vigil service will be also be held today at 7:30 p.m. followed by an American Legion Service at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale with the Rev. Patrick Mundy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Pauls Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the 55-Plus Club in care of the funeral home.
