Vaughn Doty Killed in Vietnam

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Doty of Rainbow Lake were notified Thursday that their 23-year-old son, Vaughn, had been killed in action in Vietnam on Monday. He has been serving overseas with the First Calvary Di vision of the Army since July.

The Dotys were told of their son's death by Army officers from Potsdam who were to return today to give them more details. In his last letter to his parents, which was received on Saturday, Doty said, "We are getting closer to Cambodia," but other than that the Dotys have no information on where he was located.

Doty graduated from Paul Smiths College in 1967 with a liberal arts major and went directly into the Army. After training at Fort Dix and Fort Polk in Louisiana, he was sent overseas on July 5.

He also was graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1965. He was born May 11, 1946 in Saranac Lake General Hospital.

A sister, Singra Lee, a student at Champlain College in Vermont, is the Dotys' only other child.
