SARANAC LAKE — Willard P. Gillmett, 88, of Lake Clear, died Monday, July 13, 1992 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born April 25, 1904 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Frank and Josephine (Bailey) Gillmett.

On Oct 5, 1932 he married Irene Primeau in Notre Dame Church in Malone.

A lifelong resident of the area, he attended schools in Lake Clear, Saranac Lake, and the Peddie School in New Jersey. He was chief electrician for the Saranac Inn Co. Later he was self-employed as a general contractor. He and his wife also operated the Lake Clear Restaurant

Mr. Gillmett was a local 4H leader for many years, and was chairman of the 4H camp committee. He was also a Franklin County deputy sheriff for the boat patrol in Upper Saranac Lake, a member of the Franklin County Traffic Safety Board, a life member of BPOE Elks Lodge 1508, and a member of the board of directors for the Seniors Citizens Inc. He also served as chairman of the Town of Santa Clara Republican Committee, received the Republican Man of the Year Award in 1977, and was an active member of St. John's Parish and the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jerry, of Lake Clear; two daughters, Nonie Webb of Saratoga and Martha Rose of Ganesvoort; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, James, and two sisters, Mary Reid and Captola Gillmett.

Calling hours will be held at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. An Elks ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, with a Bible vigil to follow at 8. A Mass of Christian, burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Lake Clear with the Rev. Bruce Favreau, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Lake Clear.

Memorial donations may be made to the 4h Camp Overlook in Mountain View, or the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
