William (Bill) Johnson lived in Saranac Lake and graduated from Saranac Lake High School. His father Loren E. Johnson was a TB patient at Ray Brook in 1920. Bill was in class with Rosemary Schepers, Dr. Gerrit Schepers' daughter.

Bill worked for the Public Health Service and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. He visited the museum in July of 2019. He was familiar with the work of Dr. Leroy Gardner and Dr. Schepers on industrial lung disease. He remembered Malcolm Roberts, an Industrial Hygienist who came to Saranac Lake from Colorado. He lived on Petrova Avenue and then Park Avenue He did air studies at the Saranac Laboratory, but left eventually, saying he wasn't much needed here in Saranac Lake. In 1972, Bill Roberts spoke at the American Industrial Conference and the Medical Director of Johns Mansville, who did work in Saranac Lake, was with Dr. Roberts at that conference. Bill Johnson is quoted in the 1973 Paul Brodeur book, Expendable Americans. He testified as an expert witness in trials against the asbestos industry.
