Woodruff R. "Woody" Johnson
Born Aug. 29, 1918 in Saranac Lake, he was a son of Charles and Jessie (Woodruff) Johnson.
He married Irene Yando on July 16, 1941 by Monsignor Kitts at St. Bernard's Church.
Mr. Johnson had been a resident of Saranac Lake for 35 years and had been employed as a machinist for the Dupont Company in Ilion for 1941 until his retirement in 1981. he was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army in the South Pacific. He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed golf and most sports.
Survivors include two brothers, Norman of Saranac Lake and Basil of Bloomingdale; one sister, Patricia Jacobs of Saranac Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, on Dec. 29, 1986; and two brothers, William and Carl.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. A Bible Vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:15 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernard's Church with the Rev. Tim Soucy officiating. Interment will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad, or St. Bernard's Church in care of the funeral home.
