Abortion is technically illegal in South Korea, but it is widely practiced and available. It is generally not covered by insurance.

Before the 24th week, abortions due to health risks or rape are allowed. All abortions are illegal after the 24th week. You can read more about South Korea's abortion law at womenonwaves.org.

How to find a doctor

Find an ob-gyn clinic (obstetrics and gynecology), talk to a doctor there about getting an abortion, and arrange for the procedure. If the doctor or clinic cannot do the procedure for you, go to another clinic or hospital, and ask again.

Depending on the city and clinic/hospital, the procedure will range anywhere between 500,000 - 1,000,000 won. Some places will only accept cash as payment, although others will accept card payments.

How NOT to find a doctor

You will not find an abortion provider through a direct Google or Naver search. One of the top search results for getting an abortion in Korea is a blog, and its comment section is filled with people leaving their real names and e-mail addresses. Do not post your personal identification details in this manner. You will not be able to delete your comment.

Abortion Pills

You can order the abortion pills mifepristone and misoprostol through womenonweb.org. They will only send pills if you are less than 10 weeks pregnant. Note that it will cost the equivalent of 90 euro (118,000 won as of May 2016), or you can contact them by email and explain your economic situation, to get a lower fee. You will also have to wait for the pills to arrive through international mail (2-4 weeks), and hope that they do not get seized by Korea Customs.
