This page refers to the long-haul train system, commonly referred to as KTX. For the subway system, check out the Subway page.

Stations

There are only two Incheon stations connected to the KTX: Incheon International Airport Station, and Geomam Station.

Geomam Station is not a terminal station; it is only a brief stop-by for trains. The train will only stop by briefly, for about the same length of time as a subway train stop (about 20 seconds), so there is not much time to fumble with your baggage or figure out if you have the correct train. You can board any train car, and make your way towards your correct train car/seat.

Train Classes

  • KTX
  • ITX-Saemaul
  • Mugunghwa
  • Nuriro
  • Commuter Train (Tonggeun)

Ticket booking website

English ticket booking site is very basic - unlike the Korean website or mobile app, you cannot choose your seat. You must provide your passport details. Payment is accepted from Korean or foreign-issued credit cards. The English-language site does not require you to install ActiveX security plugins - and also uses an unsecured, non-HTTPS protocol for processing your credit card. Before boarding the train, you must go to a KTX counter to confirm your ticket, and receive a printed ticket. You will need your order number and passport to confirm and print your ticket.

Ticket booking app

There is only one app for booking trains, and it is only available in Korean. However, it can be easily navigated if you can read Hangul, and are willing to set aside some time to figure out the menus. You can choose which train car to sit in, and the direction of your seat (facing forwards/backwards).

The app allows you to pick a train, ticket class, and seat, and to pay for it by card. You should take a screenshot of your ticket, so that you don't have to dig through the app to check the ticket.

After buying your ticket, you then board the train and remain in your seat. The ticketmaster checks tickets by walking through the train car, and noting if the train car's occupancy matches up with the official seat chart. If you purchased your ticket and remain seated in your correct seat, you will almost never be approached to show your ticket. However, if you do not have a ticket or are sitting in the wrong ticket - you will probably be questioned.
