- 4-H Youth Development: WVSU Extension has adopted a non-traditional approach to 4-H, focusing on youth arts initiatives and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education.
- Agriculture & Natural Resources: Community and adaptive gardens, urban forestry, assistance for the small farmer, and bringing agriculture education to inner-city youths are just some of WVSU Extension's efforts targeting agriculture issues for all ages.

Primary focus areas are community development and revitalization, regional and local economic development, and micro-enterprise and small business development.
