The American Association of University Women is a nonprofit organization that promotes equity for all women and girls, lifelong education and positive societal change. They provide funds to advance education, support research and self-development for women, and foster equity and positive societal change.

The Ithaca branch, formed in 1918, is one of 1500 local branches engaged in a variety of programs, ranging from voter education to working with local schools and organizations, to raising money for the AAUW Educational Foundation and Legal Advocacy Fund.

The national AAUW (AAUW.org) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1881, the Association is a founding and active member of the International Federation of University Women since 1919.
